Here’s How to Choose Your Toothbrush Correctly
The choice of toothbrushes can be confusing so here is some simple advice to help you make the correct choice.
- Avoid purchasing a hard-bristled toothbrush as this could cause damage to your teeth and gums. Soft-bristled toothbrushes are best for removing plaque and food debris without causing harm.
- Ideally, purchase a toothbrush with a small head and which allows you to comfortably clean all your teeth, even those right at the back of your mouth. If you have a very small mouth then purchase a child-sized toothbrush.
- Pick a toothbrush with a handle that provides a good grip and which feels comfortable to hold.
- If you have a good brushing technique you don’t need to purchase an electric toothbrush to maintain a beautifully clean mouth but an electric brush can be useful for people with limited dexterity.
- Don’t forget to replace your toothbrush or toothbrush head as soon as it shows signs of wear, usually every two or three months.
